The Bigger Plan.

“….I believe everything happens for a reason and is all part of a bigger plan. Everything has its own time and place, and I believe I am where I should be.” – New Year’s Day 2015.

4 weeks later, I am certain that everything that has happened in my life has led me to where I am and where I am supposed to be. Along the way, I learnt many life lessons, it wasn’t an easy transition after working from home for some 8 years, in fact, I never realised that it has been so long. What have I been doing the past 8 years? What if I did things differently? What if I led a different lifestyle and I never left the F&B industry in the first place?

Questions, too many to answer but I know one thing for sure; if I had lived any differently, I probably wouldn’t have met the people I got to meet, and the one thought that makes me cringe, what if I didn’t meet Robin? Thankfully, I did.

The truth is, in life you need that one person who doesn’t give up on you even when you’re close to giving up on yourself. Someone who sees your potential, someone who keeps pushing you to be a better person and doesn’t hesitate to tell you that you’re not being the best you can be. It can be hard to take in, but we need that truth.

The lights at Absinthe.

All these years I took so much for granted, that I would get a job easily with my qualifications for one. It turned into a 6 month long journey before I found THE JOB I was looking for. Sure I got offers, but interview after interview, I realised those jobs wouldn’t put me in the right direction, I wouldn’t grow the way I want to, so I kept looking. I always enjoyed doing events, so I decided I would pick up where I left off. There were times when I felt lost and on the verge of falling back into complacency, but I made a decision and I was going to stick it out no matter what. I learnt not to readily accept everything that falls into my lap if it won’t help me grow, I learnt to not let people determine and tell me what I am worth. I learnt that I should never settle for comfortable, and if things get comfortable, it means that it is time for a new challenge. Today, I am in Reservations & Events for the TRE Group, handling reservations and events for Absinthe Restaurant FranÏ‚ais which is located at Boat Quay.

Where will this new adventure take me? Only time will tell, but I will put my best foot forward, every day. No job is easy, but having a job you enjoy waking up to and excelling at makes all the difference.

Not Your Average Ring Pillow

I’ve made a handful of ring pillows since I started working on wedding customisations. The most challenging one was the airforce plane I worked on some time last year; or so I thought. I received a request to have a ring pillow made to resemble a Hermès Birkin Bag. My initial thoughts were far from optimistic. It was a bag well-known for it’s detailed craftsmanship, how would I be able to replicate it, in a mini version no less?

I spent hours studying the structure of the bag through photos from every angle I could find. It was no easy feat, but I did it, eventually. As they say, there’s nothing you cannot achieve if you put your heart and mind to it. Your brain will find a way to work things out if you are determined enough.

I did a “mock up” so I could tweak the design and make sure it was feasible. The details show better on the green piece compared to the black. Personally, the green trumps the black; green just seems to have that Kate Spade “vibe”. It is ready to use as a ring pillow, or if you’re a huge fan of the Birkin, this definitely makes a cute keepsake.

Sponsored Review : Bioré Micellar Cleansing Water

Is it possible for one product to remove make up, soothe, brighten, soften and disinfect your skin while minimising pores all at once? Sounds impossible right? But that is exactly what Bioré’s New Micellar Cleansing Water claims to do.

The Watery Micellar Technology effectively dissolves and lifts of all makeup including mascara and eyeliner and Natural Mineral Water from the Northern Japanese Alps provide for a gentle and soothing formula. The cleanser is enriched with Collagen and White Tea Extract to give you brighter, softer and suppler skin while the anti-bacterial formula helps prevent pimples and breakouts, and minimises pores for a clearer and more refined complexion.

But does it really do what it claims to?

I have sensitive skin and after using this for over a week, I have had no problems with the cleanser, even without rinsing off since this is a no-rinse cleanser. The only challenge is getting all the mascara fibres out. It takes way over 5 seconds of holding the cotton pad over my eyes to remove my mascara but that is pretty much the only tiny draw back. I would choose this over my current facial wipes because this does not sting if I happen to get it in my eyes and when I remove my mascara with the pre-soaked facial wipes, it stings every single time!

So how well does it remove a pile of make up?

I piled on BB cream, eye shadow, blusher, the works.. To use,

• Pump an appropriate amount onto cotton pad
• Use soaked cotton pad to gently wipe off makeup
• For eye makeup, place soaked cotton pad onto closed eyes and hold for 5 seconds before gently wiping it off
• Repeat until all makeup is removed, and cotton pad is clean

And this is the difference after a couple of wipes. To totally remove all make up, you’d need about 4-5 cotton pads depending on how much make up you use.

It leaves no oily or sticky feeling at all, but it does leave skin feeling clean, refreshed and hydrated. As I mentioned, rinsing is not required so this is a perfect product for those of you who get lazy with removing make up after a long night out. I personally prefer to wash with my foaming cleanser afterwards for a more thorough clean and to make sure I have nothing “foreign” left on my face. Just make sure you follow through with toner and moisturiser to avoid drying out your skin!

The above bouquet is my latest pride and joy, carefully created for Daphne whose solemnisation ceremony takes place this weekend. I can’t wait to see photos from her wedding!

This one took a real leap of faith, with not much to go on, I decided to do something completely different from what I have done with other bouquets so far, and I am so happy that the bride loves the bouquet as much as I do. Soft and airy chiffon peonies, lush roses and my first attempt at the tricky ranunculus, all handmade from scratch, and it was completely worth all the work.

Sam The Dog (Link to pattern included)

A couple weeks back I was wrecking my brains trying to figure out what to gift to my niece who was turning 1, so I scoured through Pinterest and found a pattern for a “Sausage dog” designed by Michele Wilcox. I knew it’d be perfect since the body was perfect for tiny toddler hands!
