Le Petit Cadeau

“Le Petit Cadeau” is French for “The Little Gift”.

A very similar sounding name is “Kado”, and it is believed that those with the name Kado have a pure, wild and fierce heart that is full of love.

Going about every day life, I believe it is not about grand gestures, but all the little things we do, no matter how small that truly makes the difference. Every little win in life should be celebrated, no matter how small. And the simple act of reaching out to a friend having a hard time should not be underestimated.

Just waking up to a new day might be an accomplishment for someone. Sometimes it’s okay if all you did today was breathe.

Technology has taken over our lives, and many of us have forgotten what it feels like to receive a handwritten note especially on a day when you’re feeling down. I hope to change that. Send physical cards instead of Whatsapp texts, they are two very different things. A WhatsApp text is but a text no matter how you word it, but putting in just a bit more effort to send a physical card says a lot more.

“You matter to me, You are worth it,

You are enough.”

I created Le Petit Cadeau with the hope to encourage you to reach out to your friends, even if it is just to let them know that you miss them, make someone’s day with a little gift filled with lots of love! :) ♡♡♡

Sunflowers, the universal flower of happiness!

After much “battling” with technology, to be exact as an IT noob trying to configure name servers and what not, I decided to leave Jeanine Gabrielle as my blog page and rename the store “Le Petit Cadeau”. I think it makes sense since basically everything in the store makes a great little gift for a loved one. You will find my new paper flowers under the “Petite Fleur” tab in store. Of course, you can still shop crocheted items, accessories and quirky goods for your home.

Here are some ideals that this new collection revolves around.

1. They last FOREVER.

Paper flowers are by no means a replacement for real flowers, they are an alternative option. But the fact is that paper flowers are not going to die on you like real flowers do. I always feel reluctant to throw out flowers when they have withered, it just feels so painful to throw away something that was so beautiful just the day before! With paper flowers, you don’t have to worry about changing the water every day or leaving them in the office over the weekend. They’ll be fine on their own.

A custom order of Petit Pots for Teacher’s Day.

2. Highly customisable!

In the world of paper flowers, you are limited only by your own imagination. Green roses? Why not?

Petit bouquet customised according to recipient’s favourite colors!

It allows me to create pieces that are fun and unique in their own way. No two will ever be the same. Have fun! Mix and match flowers and colors or if you’re really have no idea how to go about picking a combination, just let me know what you need and consider it done. :)

3. They can be shipped very “discretely”.

This was one of the main consideration factors for me. Keeping them small means they can be delivered via normal mail which crosses out heavy shipping costs, and secondly, who would expect to receive flowers in an unsuspecting 15 x 15 box? SURPRISE!

Mini orchid and potted roses

4. Minimal Space.

On the topic of size, they also do not invade your space. The pots take up at most a 5cm square of space so they’re perfect for those empty corners too. I make them in such a way that they can stand on their own, of course you can put some double sided foam tape on the bottom to keep them in place as they are pretty weightless. (No they won’t double up as paper weights, unfortunately) I also have “hanging pot” options that you can hang up on your office desk board! Absolutely no vases required.

5. Three Words, Handmade With LOVE.

Crafting is something that has been close to my heart for as long as I can remember. Like I said, it’s the accumulation of small things that people will remember in the long run. Handmade items just have that extra something, knowing that someone put time and effort into creating something just for you. If that doesn’t make you feel special I don’t know what will.

I always include handwritten notes in my orders, it just wouldn’t be complete otherwise!

If you managed to get to the end of this very long post, THANK YOU!

I hope “Le Petit Cadeau” brings you as much happiness and love as it does for me. :)

Dress from ASOS

On Saturday, the family gathered at Marina Barrage for an early double birthday dinner. I was looking forward very much to a seafood dinner, but the food at Sembawang Eating House Seafood Restaurant at Marina Barrage was quite a disappointment. $5 for a small basket of french fries, $50/kg of chilli crab which did not impress at all, you get the idea.

The only thing that made up for it was to be in good company, and the lovely scenic view of a part of Singapore I have yet to explore.

Enjoy my random weekend snaps!

We managed to catch the national flag flying by since the rehearsals were ongoing, this is the closest I’ve ever seen it as they were flying just overhead.

If you’re not convinced, check out all my past posts >> here <<

Recently I received two pairs of lovely shoes from XQUISIS, I am thinking of doing a giveaway since it’s my birthday month, so I thought I’d check if any of you girls are a size 39? If you are, do leave a comment under this post so I know if a giveaway is a good idea or not. The cutting is a little tight I reckon, so size 38s, count yourselves in on this!

If you’re not so into colors, there is  an alternative black version of the bag with a textured finish.

MooJaa, Singapore’s #1 Mookata!

Have you been to 25 Keong Saik Road?

moojaa3

By night, amidst a dark alley of pubs, backpacker inns and little food corners, you’ll find MooJaa, Singapore’s #1 Mookata!

Wait, Moo what?

Some time ago, I was invited to MooJaa to give Mookata a shot! Mookata literally means “pork skillet”,  and if you’re wondering about MooJaa… Well, it’s actually a popular slang word that means “my lovely pig”! I may have been living under a rock when it comes to Thai food, but the concept of a bbq and steamboat at the same time is actually very new to me. Up until now, the only bbq I’m familiar with is Korean. SO, how exactly does this whole Mookata thing work?

moojaa-drinks2

Let’s start with something to drink, shall we? Daddy and I had the Thai iced tea and Mummy decided to give the Lemongrass a shot. I’ve never tried Thai iced tea before so I can’t really tell you if it’s really Thai or not, I did like it though! Kinda like a Thai Teh-peng?

moojaa-lard

Forget oil and butter, at MooJaa they do it right with pork lard! Not only does it grease the surface and aid in cooking, at the end you also get a crunchy treat, you know, what we call “la pok”. YUM.

What’s on the menu?

It’s a free choice between Mookata sets, and ala carte dishes. For $39.90, you can enjoy Set Moo or Set Gai that comfortably feeds 2-3 people, depending on how hungry you are. If you’re a meat lover, Set Meat Lover priced at $55 will well satisfy your need for meat. If you prefer to pick out your own set then the Set Buffet is definitely for you! Priced at $32++, this allows you to order anything from the ala carte menu, buffet style! With the exception of a few select items, that is.

The full menu is available for reference on MooJaa’s Facebook page.

moojaa-meat

The meat and seafood are so fresh, any fresher and they’d still be alive. Ready to cook!

moojaa-fishskin

While waiting for your food to cook, you can enjoy some fish skin. Eat it crunchy or dip it really quick into the hot soup. It’s awesome either way, but I kinda like to eat them at their crunchiest! Think fish chips! The thing is, usually I get sick of fish skin after a couple bites, but there’s just something about MooJaa’s, we emptied the whole bowl! Well, if seafood doesn’t excite you….

cheeseballs2

This one you cannot pass on! I mean it! You cannot go to MooJaa and not try these amazing cheese balls! I’m actually hoping they retail this. I’m such a sucker for cheese stuffed anything. I know you think they look like ordinary meat balls, right? Well, looks may be deceiving…..

moojaa-cheesballs2

One bite releases an explosion of cheese! You’ve been warned, do take that first bite with caution. Pretty neat huh? Think nacho cheese in a meat ball. :)

moojaa5

Cooking in progress! Notice how there isn’t any smoke coming up? At MooJaa, Japanese white charcoal is used. This makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable, no smoke in your eyes, no oil spurting, no oil burns and you won’t leave in a sweat!

moojaa6

Perfectly browned! But before you dig in, make sure you have your dipping sauces ready!

moojaa-sauce

I’m usually not a fan of sauces, at steamboats, the most I’ve used would be soy sauce but these 31 ingredient sauces are absolutely delish! So good I had a couple of refills, these sauces are home made with the freshest ingredients weekly, so you know you’re getting the very best. I heard these sauces will actually be made available for purchase!

Psstttt : The fish skins go really well with the sweet and sour seafood sauce!

moojaa-soup

The cherry on top has got to be the soup at all steamboats. A combination of meats, veggie juices and what have you, we drank the soup dry!

moojaa2

Thanks for the invitation to taste test MooJaa, Shaun! We had a great meal!

With affordable prices, a cosy ambience, quality food with a great taste, I’ll definitely be back for seconds! (And thirds?) MooJaa also has “private rooms” should you prefer a more intimate gathering with your family and friends. The only concern my parents had was the “night life” that goes around at Keong Saik since the place is littered with bars. You definitely wouldn’t want to expose the kiddies to girls clad in barely there shorts with ciggies and beers in their hands, so lunch might be a better idea if you have older folks and young tods in your party!

Make MooJaa your next go-to place with your best buds!

Think you can eat fast? MooJaa has a challenge for you!

A sneak peek into 2013 bags

About two weeks back I had the opportunity to sneak a peek into the future….

The bags of 2013!

One of the function rooms of The Gallery Hotel was turned into a bag heaven, literally. 5 exciting Italian labels were showcased – Braccialini, Gherardini, Gabs, Araldi (Men’s) and Tintamar. I probably can’t talk about everything otherwise this post would go on forever, so I’ll show you bits and pieces and what I really dig!

– Gabs –

What do you feel like today? Sexy, or modest? These “Transformer Bags” from Gabs turned me into a kid in a candy store. Not only can you change the “designs” on the bag, they also morph into three different shapes with a few snap buttons! (See my video at the end of this post as I TRY to show you the different shapes)

Two of my favourite bags from Gabs! I soooo want one, but they’re only out next year! :(

How can you resist that adorable puppy face?

More Gabs bags!

And the smaller things. Color me happy indeed!

Totally loveeeeee the Holga clutch! Perfect for photos where you want to hide your face. Can you tell I’m already being really biased? The Gabs Collection topped my favorites list! The fact that it’s “Gabs” probably contributed to that too… Gabs, Gabrielle… get it? ^_^

– Tintamar –

Tintamar bags, in a word – FUNCTIONAL.

That grey bag on the right is 3 bags in one. A day bag, a detachable laptop carry bag, and an evening clutch. Now that’s what I call functional.

The range boasts of all sorts of bags we need to stay organised, including bag organisers in super candy colors. I LIKE.

– Gherardini –

These, are by Gherardini. More suited for the mature woman, I’d like to think I am not suited to rock these just yet. Nonetheless, a simple yet chic collection for mummies with good taste. There are more bags I need to show you!

– Tua by Braccialini –

These bags were made for the young, and the young at heart. This puppy messenger bag was another one that made me go AWWWW. Perfect for the creative girl on the go! If you like your bags bold and quirky, you’ll love Tua.

Fancy a scene?

Braccialini Temi Collection – SS2013

While Tua features more quirky bags, the Braccialini range is rather different..

I particularly love this simple leather tote. Simple, chic, no messy details, just a nice neat tote that’ll fit everything. Another one on the “WANTED LIST”.

– Araldi for Men –

Araldi – dubbed as the “Belt Heaven” will be hitting local shores in Dec 2012 / Jan 2013. This novel concept will be a first in Asia with over 250 ‘mix-and-match’ options for luxury offerings for men’s belts, shoes and bags, tailored to the needs of the stylish modern man.

They say an Italian man’s shoes must always match his belt…

Now remember the video I promised? Here it is. Please forgive my incredibly amateur “editing”. I don’t even know if the annotations were saved properly but oh well, knock yourselves out!

And there it is… your sneak peek into 2013! And this was probably my longest post with the most photo content. I hope you enjoyed every bit of it! Enjoy the long weekend! :) xx

All bags featured in this post will be available at Galleria Italiana. Check out their Facebook page!

Galleria Italiana is located at #02-28 Orchard Central, 181 Orchard Road, and is open from Monday to Sunday 11:30am to 9pm. For retail inquiries, please call (65) 68846128

Dinner with an old friend at The Pizza Place

We had to grab a quick bite before the Esquire event so Alvin suggested The Pizza Place. I’ve been to Raffles City many times, but I have never noticed this little outlet tucked away in a corner, not until now!

I would have loved to try the pizza at a pizza place but the personal sized pizzas were sold out, so I just had some sides instead. This little corner has some pretty decent bites!

For one, I was really happy they have truffle fries! A bowlful for S$6.80! I wonder if they do take out.. Hmmmmmm

Alvin had Meatball Pasta which was good apparently, but the color of the meatballs really scares me. I won’t say what I think they look like so… go figure. ^_^

I had an order of these cheesy meatballs since I wasn’t too hungry… Very yummy! Wish we weren’t in a rush to finish though, these were piping hot out of the oven and it took more than 5 minutes to cool down enough for me to bite into!

Alvin and his EXTREMELY belated birthday gift, the Mario piranha plant, which is now his favourite and uhmmm perhaps only, pet plant. Handmade by yours truly. :D

See more of my hama bead work here! >> Hama Hama <<

The entire meal consisting of 3 food items and 2 drinks costed $31! Very affordable considering the location and for the quality of food they offer. Plus, they don’t charge service or GST here. Awesommmeeee right? I’ll definitely go back for the truffle fries and maybe a pizza the next time. Definitely worth checking out! :)

The Pizza Place is located at Raffles City, #B1-16. Tel: 6336 1979

“Serving up a slice of New York City for 15 years since opening in 1996 in Singapore, The Pizza Place epitomizes the classic New York style pizza at its very best. Topped with generous portions of premium ingredients and crowned with layers of melted cheese, every bite into our freshly-baked golden-crusted gourmet pizzas will satisfy the most epicurean of cravings. Together with our ever-popular variety of pastas, baked rice, spicy Buffalo wings, fresh salads and finger foods, we have something for everyone to enjoy, every time. Visit us at our newly-renovated restaurant for a truly unforgettable gastronomic experience today!”

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Happy 47th Birthday Singapore! And to fellow Singaporeans, enjoy the long weekend! (At least for those who managed to snag a day off.)

Red velvet cupcakes, anyone? These little cuties are a tiny 1.5cm by 2cm small! See more of my creations and my latest clay pieces as anti-dust caps here —>> Jeanine Gabrielle on Facebook
