Calm Amidst The Chaos

To say that time flies would be an understatement.

A year and 3 months later, I find myself revisiting my old self. But why? Because, life happened.

And now, in the midst of this madness caused by the COVID-19 virus, I finally feel like I have time to myself. After all, the past year and a half has been a total whirlwind, time just flew past. I remember leaving beni, taking a break and then starting a new job at Shangri-la last January which didn’t quite work out. Before I knew it I landed another job and as cliche as it might sound, yes, the rest is history.

I always dreamt about working in the wedding industry, there was just something magical about planning someone’s big day. I finally got the offer to do that, although it isn’t quite as magical as I envisioned it to be, it is worth it in the end.

Due to the current situation, I’ve gained a lot more free time and putting work aside to be creative really helps to keep my sanity in a way.

It may seem like a daunting task at first but once you see what you can create with paper, you just want to keep doing more and challenging yourself to do better every day.

I’ve been going back and forth with the idea of creating a new crepe paper flower section for the online store, speaking of which I have neglected for the past year and only started updating over a week ago.

I’m trying my best to tidy up the site and maybe start building content on the blog again, but in the meantime, go check out my new airpod cosies!

“But the reality is, times are unpredictable.”

How long will COVID-19 last? Until when will we have to practice social distancing? When will life go back to normal?

Amidst the chaos, I guess there’s a silver lining even in the worst situations such as this.

It all depends on how you make it out to be.

Sponsored Review : Bioré Micellar Cleansing Water

20141009_122820

Is it possible for one product to remove make up, soothe, brighten, soften and disinfect your skin while minimising pores all at once? Sounds impossible right? But that is exactly what Bioré’s New Micellar Cleansing Water claims to do.

20141009_122652

The Watery Micellar Technology effectively dissolves and lifts of all makeup including mascara and eyeliner and Natural Mineral Water from the Northern Japanese Alps provide for a gentle and soothing formula. The cleanser is enriched with Collagen and White Tea Extract to give you brighter, softer and suppler skin while the anti-bacterial formula helps prevent pimples and breakouts, and minimises pores for a clearer and more refined complexion.

But does it really do what it claims to?

I have sensitive skin and after using this for over a week, I have had no problems with the cleanser, even without rinsing off since this is a no-rinse cleanser. The only challenge is getting all the mascara fibres out. It takes way over 5 seconds of holding the cotton pad over my eyes to remove my mascara but that is pretty much the only tiny draw back. I would choose this over my current facial wipes because this does not sting if I happen to get it in my eyes and when I remove my mascara with the pre-soaked facial wipes, it stings every single time!

So how well does it remove a pile of make up?

I piled on BB cream, eye shadow, blusher, the works.. To use,

• Pump an appropriate amount onto cotton pad
• Use soaked cotton pad to gently wipe off makeup
• For eye makeup, place soaked cotton pad onto closed eyes and hold for 5 seconds before gently wiping it off
• Repeat until all makeup is removed, and cotton pad is clean

And this is the difference after a couple of wipes. To totally remove all make up, you’d need about 4-5 cotton pads depending on how much make up you use.

It leaves no oily or sticky feeling at all, but it does leave skin feeling clean, refreshed and hydrated. As I mentioned, rinsing is not required so this is a perfect product for those of you who get lazy with removing make up after a long night out. I personally prefer to wash with my foaming cleanser afterwards for a more thorough clean and to make sure I have nothing “foreign” left on my face. Just make sure you follow through with toner and moisturiser to avoid drying out your skin!

Would I buy this? Definitely yes.20141009_121108

Bioré Micellar Cleansing Water retails at $18.90 and is available in all pharmacies, hypermarkets and supermarkets, and major departmental stores.

The above bouquet is my latest pride and joy, carefully created for Daphne whose solemnisation ceremony takes place this weekend. I can’t wait to see photos from her wedding!

This one took a real leap of faith, with not much to go on, I decided to do something completely different from what I have done with other bouquets so far, and I am so happy that the bride loves the bouquet as much as I do. Soft and airy chiffon peonies, lush roses and my first attempt at the tricky ranunculus, all handmade from scratch, and it was completely worth all the work.

If you’d like to view more photos of this bouquet, they are available here. Please contact me at jeaninegabrielle@gmail.com at least 2-3 months in advance if you are interested in a handmade bouquet for your wedding that will last forever, along with memories from your BIG DAY!

Shades of ivory, pink and topped with pearls on top

weiyen6

After working on a couple of bridal bouquets, I’ve realised that shades of ivory and pink seem to be a favourite amongst brides. Sometimes I wonder if I’ll stick to the norm when my turn comes (eventually).  Everyone loves this latest bouquet, I had a customer tell me this bouquet is fit for a Princess, and I think I have to agree! *cues Disney princess song*

I’m all about uniqueness and exclusivity, so I like to make sure that no two bouquets are ever the same. In fact, no two flowers are carbon copies of each other; each and every flower has it’s own identity, just like nature intended it to be.

I still get people asking me if these are real flowers, well, as alive as they look, they are actually made of fabric. The advantage? These will outlive and outlast real life flowers, and you can do tons of stuff with it after you walk down the aisle. Take the bouquet apart after your wedding and rearrange the flowers in simple mason jars or leave the bouquet as it is on your bedside table and relive your wedding day every single day. That actually sounds like a great daily reminder as to why you said “I DO”.

What would you do with your wedding bouquet if it could last a lifetime?

To Dao Bin & Wei Yen, my heartiest congratulations, and may married life be everything you expected and more! xx
